Who we are

Notch is a video diary by Gradiente Ltd. You keep one second of video for each day, and Notch makes a film of them. This policy says what the app reads, what it keeps, and what leaves your iPhone.

What stays on your iPhone

Your journals, your clips, your chosen seconds, and your notes stay on your iPhone, inside the app. Notch does not send them to us or to anyone else.

The widgets read a summary that Notch writes on your iPhone. That summary stays on your iPhone too.

A film that you export stays in a temporary folder on your iPhone. Notch deletes it after one day. Save it to Photos or share it to keep it.

Camera and microphone

Notch uses the camera and the microphone only while its camera screen is open. A clip that you record goes into the app on your iPhone.

Photos

When you import a clip, the system photo picker opens. Notch receives only the video that you choose. It cannot see the rest of your library.

When you save a finished film, Notch asks to add it to your Photos library. This permission lets Notch add a video. It does not let Notch read your library.

Quick Fill is the one feature that reads your library, and only after you allow it. It looks for videos that you took on a day with no clip. It reads the date, the length, and a small picture of each of those videos. It copies only the videos that you confirm, at most 10 seconds of each one.

All of this happens on your iPhone. Nothing from your library leaves your iPhone. You can take the permission away in the Settings app at any time, and each other part of Notch works without it.

Reminders

If you turn on the daily reminder, your iPhone schedules it. The reminder never leaves your iPhone.

Sharing

When you share a film, it goes to the app or the person that you choose. Notch does not keep a copy of what you send, and it does not see where it goes.

Notch Pro

Notch Pro is a subscription. Apple takes the payment, and Apple tells us nothing about your payment method or your Apple Account.

We use RevenueCat, Inc. to check that your subscription is active, and to restore it on a new iPhone. RevenueCat receives the purchase itself and an anonymous identifier that its software makes for your installation of the app. It does not receive your name, your email address, or any part of your diary. Its privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.

If you never buy Notch Pro, the app still asks RevenueCat whether this installation holds a subscription. A purchase from an earlier iPhone then comes back to you.

Backups

Your iPhone can include app data in iCloud Backup or in a backup on a computer. Your device settings control this, not Notch.

With Notch Pro you can also turn on Backup to iCloud in the settings of Notch. Notch then keeps a copy of each journal, each day, each note, and each clip in the private iCloud database of your own Apple Account. Apple stores it, and your iCloud storage holds it. We cannot read it, and nobody else can.

A change or a delete in Notch reaches that copy too. To remove the copy, turn the backup off. Then delete the data of Notch in the Settings app, under your name, iCloud, and Storage.

Deleting your data

When you delete a clip or a journal in Notch, its video files leave your iPhone. When you delete the app, all of its data leaves your iPhone.

Children

Notch is not made for children, and it asks for no personal detail from any person, of any age. The only data that reaches us or RevenueCat is the purchase described above. It carries no name and no part of your diary. The iCloud backup goes to your own Apple Account, not to us.

This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It loads nothing from another company.

Changes

If a later version of Notch reads or keeps data in a new way, this page will say so before that version is released. The date at the top of this page shows the last change.
